IKEA style cream sauce


We always enjoy a trip to IKEA, not so much for their flat-pack furniture but to have their iconic Swedish (veggie) meatballs dish. During lockdown IKEA even published the recipe for anyone who were getting withdrawal symptoms from this addictive sauce.

Ingredients
serves 4

80g butter

80g plain flour

600ml vegetable stock

300ml single cream

4 tsp dark soy sauce

4 tsp (heaped) dijon mustard (to taste)

Method

Melt the butter in a saucepan over a medium temperature. Stir in the flour and whisk into a roux. Gradually add the cream, followed by the veg stock, whisking constantly.

Bring to a gentle simmer and cook on a low temperature to thicken. 

Add the dark soy sauce and dijon mustard (to taste)

Serve with veggie balls, mashed potato, peas and lingoberry.
